The Rock Collage, Original
This project is the result of a vision I had nearly 2 years ago – a vision to capture the essence of the people who make up this community. For this reason, every Rock captured on film this academic year was published in this poster. Not one was rejected. These scenes were captured between October 2000 and May 2001.
Hundreds of us walk through the space between Harris and University Halls everyday. For most this area is often a diversion between rushing to class. We are accosted by those passing out flyers, amused by the advertisements, or stopped to put money in a fundraising bucket. The Rock, however, is different. It’s more than an advertisement. It’s more than a piece of artwork. It’s even more than a great tradition. It represents our values, what is important to us, what we live for, and what we stand for. It records the things the bring significance into our life during our time at Northwestern.
I hope this poster will be more than just a decoration for your wall. I hope it reminds you of your time at Northwestern and the causes, faiths, and communities you devoted your energy to, regardless if it was ever covered on the Rock. Ultimately, I hope you believe your energy was not spent in vain.
Finally thanks to my alma mater, Northwestern University.
